China has a unicameral form of parliament, which means that there parliament consists of only a single legislature or house. The name of the Chinese parliament is the National people's Congress of the people's republic of China and it is normally referred to as the National people's Congress ( NPC). In China, the highest organ of the national legislature and state power of the people's republic of China is the National people's Congress. The members of the national people’s Congress, NPC are not paid and are considered to be the part time legislators. The major officers of the state are elected by NPC. It oversees the operations of the government, supreme court of China, the central military commission and special committees. The NPC holds sessions every spring on the west side of Tiananmen square, the great hall of the people in Beijing which lasts for around 10 to 14 days usually. The National People's Congress is elected for a tenure of 5 years. Till 2018 the parliament of China, NPC had 2980 members. For a full session the National people’s Congress each year meets for two weeks roughly. The standing committee of the national people's Congress( NPCSC) exercises the majority of the power of the National People’s Congress.
