Hint: This is a type of simple percentage question. To solve this problem first we will obtain the total bill of the hotel including the extra bed charge for two days. Then multiplying the whole amount with the GST percentage we will get the total GST amount in the bill.
Complete step-by-step answer:
According to the question,
Rate of the hotel per day is = Rs.5000
As on the same day his friend joined him.
So, extra bed charge provided by hotel = Rs.1000
$ \therefore $ Total rate of the hotel per day including extra bed charges is $ = 5000 + 1000 = 6000 $ Rs.
They live in the hotel for 2 days.
$ \therefore $ Total rate of the hotel for 2 days including extra bed charges is $ = 2 \times 6000 = 12000 $ Rs.
Rate of GST = 28%
GST amount for two days \[ = 28\% \times 12000\]
$ \therefore $ Total GST amount for two days $ = 12000 \times \dfrac{{28}}{{100}} $
Cancelling two zeros of denominator by two zeros of numerator we get,
Total GST amount for two days $ = 120 \times 28 = 3360 $ Rs.
$ \therefore $ GST of Rs.3360 is charged by the hotel in the bill to Mr. Malik for both of the days.
Note: We can also do the same question in an alternative method in which we will derive the GST amount of the bill for two days separately. Then adding GST amount of both the days we will get the total GST amount.
You may mistake the question as extra bed charge is including for the second day only, not for the first day. But it is mentioned in the question that on the same day his friend joined him that means on the same day he has joined.
You may mistook it as the total bill amount, but the question is asked only for the GST amount.
You should practice more questions of percentages.
Always before doing the answer read the question thoroughly.
