Hint:Cotton grows around the seeds of the cotton plants in the form of a ball and is a soft, fluffy staple fiber. The fiber produced is almost pure cellulose and is mostly spun into yarn or thread that is used to make a soft, breathable textile. India is the largest producer of cotton and the United States is the largest exporter.

Complete answer:The textile industry in India is the second-largest employment generating sector after the Agriculture Sector. It has employment for both skilled and unskilled labor. The cotton textile industry was concentrated in the cotton-growing belt of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Gujarat because of the availability of raw materials, market, transport, labor, moist climate, and other factors. There are 1900 cotton textile mills in India. The main problems with the cotton textile industry in India are:
- The Machinery that is used in the cotton textile industry for spinning and weaving is old and outdated which reduces the output and also makes the process slow.
- There is an irregular power supply that extends the work.
- There is a tough competition for the cotton industry from the fiber industry.
- There is competition from foreign cloth industries.
- There is a shortage of supply of raw materials which is imported from foreign countries, particularly of long-staple cotton.

Note:Cotton requires a long frost-free period, plenty of sunshine, and moderate rainfall. The Soils needed to be fairly heavy. Black soil is the most suitable for growing cotton as it is poor in nitrogen, phosphorus, and organic matter. The spinning and weaving of cotton using machinery is done in a cotton mill.
