Melting point of a solid is defined as the temperature at which a solid changes into liquid. It is the force of attraction between the particles of the solid. which on heating due to its thermal energy, its molecule starts vibrating and therefore, the kinetic energy of the molecule also increases.
As thermal energy of the molecule increases hence increase in kinetic energy the temperature of the solid also increases as a result the force attraction between the molecule decreases and molecules present in the solid start separating from each other and get separated. which increases the potential energy of the molecule and the particles start leaving their fixed positions and move more freely in space.
At a certain temperature, the separation between the molecules increases by a large amount and the solid starts melting and gets converted into liquid. This particular temperature is known as the melting point of the solid. The melting point of a pure substance (i.e., solute) is always higher than the melting point of a substance which contains some amount of impurity.
The melting point of the ice is $ {{0}^{\circ }}c $ or $ 273k $ .
During the melting process, till all the ice melts, the temperature of the system does not increase until after the melting point is reached.
