Hint: The division which is classified on the basis of physical features is known as physical division. The wide range of physical features of India makes it a complete in geographical study. India is a land of diversity in all the manners. The economy, culture and even the landscape of India has diverse elements, all on one landmass. In fact, all over the globe India has every possible landscape. India may be divided into six physical units -
1. The Himalayan Mountains. :- A mountain range in Asia separating the plains of the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau is known as Himalaya or Himalayas mountain. The mountain range has many of Earth's highest peaks, including the highest, Mount Everest, at the border between Nepal and China.
2. The Peninsular Plateau. :- The place which is surrounded by water from the three sides is called peninsula and the area of flat land which is elevated above sea level is called plateau. The largest plateau in western and southern India is the Deccan Plateau.
3. The Northern Plains. :- The plain which has been formed by the interplay of the three major river systems that are : The Indus, the Ganga and the Brahmaputra along with their tributaries is known as northern plains. This plain spreads over an area of "seven lakh square kilometers". The plain being about 2400 Kilometers long and 240-320 Kilometer broad and it is a densely populated physiographic division.
4. The Indian Desert. :- The Thar Desert, is also called as the Great Indian Desert. It is the world seventeen'th largest desert, and the world's nine'th largest hot subtropical desert.
5. The Coastal Plains. :- A flat, low-lying piece of land next to the ocean is known as a coastal plain. These plains are separated from the rest of the interior by nearby landforms, such as mountains. A larger coastal plain lies between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, in western South Africa.
6. The Island Groups. :- There are mainly two island groups of India: Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar island.
