The insulator is a type of material that is widely used in the electrical component industry. Insulators are the bad conductor of electricity. Due to this property of bad conduction they are widely used for insulation of various electrical equipment, wires and what not from interacting with other materials or equipment that are close.

There are several types of insulators that are used in the industry. The insulation in wires in our homes that we use are different types of insulator contrast to that the insulators used in train lines are of other kinds. So, there are mainly five types of insulators.

-Strain insulators
-Stay insulators
-Shackle insulators

Note: The insulators are bad conductors of the electricity because they do not contain any free electrons. Most of the electrons in them are strongly. But when they are exposed in an electric field some of them form non -zero dipole moments. With a non-trivial dipole moment it can have a non- zero electric field in the region. Insulators can also conduct electricity after a certain frequency for the dielectric called cutoff frequency.
