Hint:The noble gases are inert because they have the electronic configuration with a filled valence shell with eight electrons. This is why they are considered inert as they are not reactive as that of the other group elements and hence these gases have great properties in protecting different instruments.

Complete answer:
Neon is one of the inert gases which is present in the periodic table among all the noble gases. There are two most important uses of neon.
$1.$ This gas is used for multiple purposes which include the inert conditions to be maintained in different components and in different protective equipment that is widely used in normal life. The neon is a specific inert gas which fills equipment like voltameter, rectifiers and relays. This specific gas has the ability to carry a high level of current in the presence of a high voltage. Therefore, even though high voltage current passes through these instruments, they remain protected under the environment inside these instruments.
$2.$ Neon is the gaseous component which is used inside the fluorescent lamps which are visible through longer distances. This is why presently neon lights are used to provide better visibility to the vehicles on road. The intensity of light becomes so high due to the presence of neon inside the lamps that the light is visible even through the fogs. This is why such lights are used in the airport runways so that the runway is easily visible to the pilots from before they land.

Note:
These inert gases are very important for getting used in the different types of lights and different colours of fluorescent lamps. The inert gas-filled lamps are seen to glow brighter and be efficient at their work than normal filament bulbs.
