Hint: Neuron is the basic unit of the brain. These cells are used to transmit the information from one area to the brain or from the brain to the other areas. These are also referred to as nerve cells or nerve fibers. These are the functional units of the brain.

Complete Answer:
The neurons send and receive the information from the brain. This makes the movement of the muscles or bones, form memories etc. On the basis of the functions the neurons are classified into three types as sensory neurons, motor neurons and the interneurons.

(1) Sensory neurons:
Sensory neurons are the neurons that carry information from the sensory organs like eye, ear, nose, skin and tongue. These neurons are unipolar in nature.

(2) Motor neurons:
These neurons send and receive impulse from the brain to the spinal cord. From the spinal cord they carry information or signals to the muscles, glands and skeletal systems. These neurons are multipolar in nature. These are again classified into two as lower and upper motor neurons.

(3) Interneurons:
They have both the motor and the sensory neurons. These neurons are connected from one neuron to the other. These are bipolar in nature.

Note: The example for the sensory neuron is the feeling the taste of the particular food is transmitted by the unipolar neurons to the brain. The example for the motor neurons is neurons involved in carrying the impulse of driving the car. The example for the interneuron is Golgi cell in the cerebellum.
