Seminal vesicles:
a) This gland is also called uterus masculine.
b) The gland consists of enzymes, fructose, ascorbic acid and prostaglandins.
c) Only one pair of seminal vesicles are present in the male reproductive system.
d) This gland secretes fluids that are alkaline in nature.
e) Secretions have a pH of about 7.4.
f) These secretions activate sperms.
The role of prostate glands are as follows:
Prostate gland:
a) It has a bilobed structure and surrounds the urethra.
b) These gland secretions are alkaline in nature and the secretion is poured into semen when it is passing through the urethra.
c) It is located around the urethra’s anterior end.
d) Secretions of this gland is fluid of white colour. This fluid is about 25-30 % of semen.
e) Its secretion contains lysozymes, spermin, phosphate, etc. This secretion also activates sperms and also helps to prevent the coagulation of semen.
f) The gland contains lobes. Namely ventral lobe-1, dorsal lobe-1, lateral lobes-2. In total, there are 4 main lobes.
Secretions of these two glands help in the transportation of sperms and also make it easier to provide nutrition and to activate the sperm.
Note: The male reproductive system consists of sex organs which play a vital role in the process of human reproduction. The organs are located outside the body and inside the pelvis. The main sex organs in the male are the penis and the testicles as these organs produce semen and sperms.
