There is another highly electronegative atom that lies in the vicinity of the hydrogen atom. For example, in a water molecule the hydrogen atom is linked to the strongly electronegative oxygen atom. Hydrogen bonds are stronger than van der Waals interactions and weaker than fully covalent or ionic bonds. This bond is formed in inorganic molecules like water and organic molecules like DNA and proteins. High boiling point of water is due to the high number of hydrogen bonds formed by each molecule.
