After the top layers of rock eroded, the Colorado River grew powerful and began to cut its way through the ancient rock, leaving the stunning canyon we see today.
Geological forces broke apart and titled the Grand Canyon supergroup layers. The basement of the Grand Canyon is said to be Vishnu basement rocks. It is said that over 1.75 million years ago basement rocks formed deep below the Vishnu Mountains.
