The decision taken by the Gram Sabha can not be taken down by any other body. All those who are above 18 year of age, living in the village and whose names are included in the electorates for the Panchayats are the members of Gram Sabha. Gram Sabha helps the implementation of the development programmes of the Panchayat. It helps identify the beneficiaries for different programmes. Gram Sabha promotes unity and harmony among all the sections of society in the village. Gram Sabha is divided into wards. Ward members or commissioners represent the wards. It is mandatory that the Gram Sabha of a State has to conduct a meeting at least twice a year. There are a total of about 250,000 Gram Sabhas in India. Gram Sabha is a general assembly of people of a village who have attained the age of 18 and are registered as a voter. It can also constitute committees to carry out functions like maintaining peace and order, manage minor forest produce, control over money lending, management of water bodies, village markets, sale or consumption of intoxicants.
