Hint:
With the Open Door policy in 1899, America came out with the intention of avoiding and taking financial advantage of China's actual political division due to which China remained undivided. Except for Russia, all the European countries accepted this policy.

Complete answer:
China’s cultural development is not much influenced by the outside of the country and Buddhism introduced in India constitutes the conception majorly in China. The isolation from the world over the centuries helped china to flower and refine its culture but from the mid of 19th century, China was left unprepared to cope with the world.

China was confronted by the technologically superior foreign nations. This was the reason why China followed a century of decline and decrepitude and found itself helpless in the foreign onslaught. Because of the trauma of external change in the early 20th century, the catalyst for a revolution began against the old regime which culminated in the establishment of a communist government in the year 1949.

In 1899, America introduced a policy called ‘Open Door Policy’ regarding China. This policy aimed at dividing China politically amongst the European powers to have equal rights to trade in the country. The policy of America was accepted by all the European nations except Russia. Thus, China remained undivided.

Note:
America framed this policy to take financial advantage. From more than 4000 years of history, China has been the earliest stage of the world's civilization. It has flourished economically and it is unique among the nations for its longevity and resilience as a discrete political-cultural unit.
