Depending on the nature of the respiratory substrate, Blackman divided respiration into two types namely Floating respiration and Protoplasmic respiration.
- Floating respiration is a form of respiration in which nutrients such as carbohydrate fat or protein is taken from outside the cell or body is digested. The substrate used in floating respiration is fats or carbohydrates.
- The substrate acts as a storing material and is hydrolysed during respiration. It moves indefinitely throughout the life of a cell and does not produce any toxic products and elements. It helps to keep the cells healthy.
