Hint :Lets take a simple example to understand this situation, if we put a metal block in a bucket full of water it will get settled at the bottom and if we replace the metal block with a plastic ball, the ball will float on the surface. This all depends on the density of the ball and block, more the density than water the object will sink on contrary it will float.
Complete Step By Step Answer:
We can simply explain density as in any material there are molecules, the more clustered the molecules are the more is the density. The more distance in between molecules the lesser will be the density.
Now for a balloon to rise the density of the air should be more than the density of air in a balloon.
The more the difference in the densities the more rise it will get. The volume of the balloon can be increased by increasing the temperature of the gases inside the balloon. The greater the temperature the greater the volume and lesser the density. Hence, the difference in temperature of gas in a balloon and the temperature of the environment is critical. The colder the environment temperature more easy it will be to create large differences in between the densities.
Note :
The study of density has wide use. It is used in airplane weight distribution as well as manufacturing of ships and submarines. It is also used to identify purity of substance and estimate composition in many mixtures.
