Hint: We all have seen a battery and we know that a battery can be charged easily and it can be discharged when required. A battery is an electrochemical device that consists of one or more than one electrochemical cell. The Discharge rate of the battery helps in the determination of the battery capacity.
Complete answer:
Before knowing about the discharge rate of the battery, let us first come to know about the battery.
A battery is an electrochemical cell that consists of one or more than one electrochemical cell. Basically, it is devices made up of multiple electrochemical cells that are connected to external inputs and outputs. It can be easily charged with the electric current and can be discharged whenever required. Batteries are mainly classified into two categories such as primary batteries and secondary batteries. Primary batteries are those which can be charged only once, when they get discharged they become useless and must be discarded. On the other hand, secondary batteries are those which can be charged after they get discharged. They are also known as rechargeable batteries.
So, the discharge rate of batteries is defined as the battery capacity divided by the number of hours taken by the battery to charge or discharge. It helps in the determination of battery capacity as it provides the battery capacity as a function of the time.
For example- If a battery capacity is of $ 500\,Ah $ that is discharged to cut-off voltages in $ 20 $ hours. So its discharge rate will be $ \dfrac{{500\,Ah}}{{20\,h}} $ which is equal to $ 25A $ .
Note:
Batteries are very useful and are widely used in our everyday lives. It is used to power small devices such as mobile phones, remotes and torches etc. Some important examples of Batteries are: Lead- Acid battery, Nickel-Cadmium battery and the Lithium Ion battery.
