Historians give different views on what led to the occurrence of the revolution, but the most obvious and common one was the inability of the Ancien Regime (the political system of France from the Late Middle Ages to the onset of the French Revolution) to control growing social and economic inequality in the country. The revolution led to the establishment of a Constitutional Monarchy in France. During the revolution, several images were used as political symbols.
