Hint: Brine solution is a solution of water and sodium chloride. In other words, brine solution is aqueous solution of common salt.
Complete step by step answer:
Brine solution is a solution or mixture of sodium chloride $(NaCl)$ and water (${H_2}O$). The electrolysis process involves using an electric current to bring about a chemical change and make new chemical compounds. This electrolysis process is a large-scale process which is used to manufacture chlorine from the salt. Two other useful chemical compounds are obtained during the electrolysis process i.e., sodium hydroxide $NaOH$ and hydrogen ${H_2}$.
$2NaCl + 2{H_2}O \to 2NaOH + C{l_2} + {H_2}$
Sodium hydroxide and chlorine that are produced in the reaction process are separated. Only at the time of reaction, they come in contact with each other.
Reaction takes place at cathode:
The hydrogen ions get reduced by electron (e) gain to form hydrogen molecules at the negative electrode which attracts positive ions.
$2{H^ + }(aq) + 2{e^ - } \to {H_2}(g)$
Reaction takes place at anode:
The chloride ions get oxidized by the electron loss to give chlorine molecules a positive electrode which attracts negative ions.
$C{l_2} \to 2C{l^ - } + 2{e^ - }$
The reaction between sodium ion and hydroxide ion will give sodium $NaOH$.
$N{a^ + } + O{H^ - } \to NaOH$
Thus, the correct answer is options are A, C and D.
Note:
Products obtained due to electrolysis of brine solution are used in various industries.
Chlorine - disinfectant and purifier, manufacture of hydrochloric acid and making plastics.
Sodium Hydroxide - processing food products, removing pollutants from water and manufacture of paper.
Hydrogen - manufacture of hydrochloric acid and potential as a pollution-free fuel.
