Hint: The measurements of any quantity require a parameter that is the units used for measurement. The SI unit of measurement is called the international system of units. The SI units for various quantities like mass, volume, length, area are different. The basic unit is the fundamental unit that has various bigger and smaller quantities.

Complete answer:
The measurement of any substance in terms of area, volume, length and magnitude requires some parameters that are known as units of measurement. A unit of measurement has one base unit assigned that is convertible into larger units and to smaller units. The SI system stands for international system, and is an abbreviation of a French word Systeme international. This SI unit system is a system that is chosen to be applied for measuring quantities worldwide and therefore is universal.
Length is the measurement of distance between two end points of anything. The SI unit used for measuring length is meter denoted by ‘m’. This is the base unit for measuring length all over the world.
The other quantities include a series kilo, hecto, deca, unit, deci, centi, milli, where the unit place in case of length is the SI unit called meter. So, the series for measuring length becomes, kilometer, hectometer, decameter, meter, decimeter, centimeter, and millimeter.
Hence, the basic unit of length in the SI system is meter (m).

Note:
The units, kilometer, hectometer, decameter, meter, decimeter, centimeter, millimeter are in decreasing order. These are interchangeable as while converting a bigger unit into a smaller unit we will multiply that unit by 10 times the position of the measuring factors. Like kilometer is converted to meter by the factor of 1 km = 1000 m.
