Hint: ABO is the best known system for grouping blood types. The blood group of an individual is decided on the basis of genes that they inherit from their parents. The presence of antigens on the red blood cells decides the presence of a blood group. Each group can be either RhD positive or RhD negative, making a total of 8 blood groups.
Complete answer:
We have already discussed above that a total of eight blood groups exist as the consequence of antigen on the red blood cells. The blood groups are – A, B, AB, O either in positive or negative. Most people have about 4 to 6 liters blood in the body. This blood is made up of various kinds of cells that float in a fluid that is known as the plasma. Now among these blood groups some are common whereas others are rare. The blood group 0 negative is one which is one of the rarest of all blood groups. Having a negative blood group does not have consequences as such but being a rare group makes it difficult to get the blood group at the time of injury.
Another disadvantage is that if the mother is Rh negative whereas the son is Rh positive, it leads to high risk of getting infected with erythroblastosis fetalis. However, this does not happens in the first pregnancy but can occur in second or third pregnancy. It has one more disadvantages i.e, Strongest stomach acids:if O negative individuals have higher levels of stomach acids and are exposed to medical conditions like ulcers.
Note: The red blood cells that have the presence of antigen are used to deliver oxygen to the various tissues in the body and also removes carbon-di-oxide whereas the white blood cells work to destroy invaders and also fights infection. The platelets function is clotting of blood without which if we had an injury our blood would flow continuously without stopping.
