The mixture of two metals, or a metal with a non-metal, produces a strong compound called alloy. These alloys have impressive properties. They can be heat resistant, stainless, conductors, resistant to corrosion, hard, ductile, magnetizable, etc.
Solder is an alloy, made from the elements, tin and lead. These tin and lead are melted with a heated iron above 600 degree Fahrenheit and are then cooled down to obtain solder.
Soldering is a process to join various metals together or, it can be called welding in common language. As the name suggests, solder is used for making electrical wires for welding. This is because lead and tin, which make up the solder, together contribute to the low melting point of solder alloy. This property of low melting point easily joins the metal surfaces for welding.
Hence, solder alloy has tin and lead as constituents, it has a low melting point that is used for welding purposes.

Additional information: Some of the famous alloys are, brass , made of copper and zinc; and bronze, made of copper and tin. Trophies are generally made of bronze alloy.
