The landscape of the arctic tundra is dark and bleak. The permanently frozen layers of subsoil extend up to 90 centimeters and make it impossible for the growth of trees. Vegetation in the arctic tundra is supported only on rocky terrain. The supported vegetation consists of mosses and lichens
The average temperature drops to -28°C during winters. Tundras are windy biomes with winds blowing with speeds of up to 100km/h. Tundras experience light precipitation with minimal evaporation.
