The blue color of veins are not a sign of good health, it may be due to the presence of certain vein disease. When you are standing up or sitting down the gravity pulls blood down into your legs, and in this condition, veins have to work extra to get that blood back to the heart. Some veins are not able to wear it out.
- The veins that are present on the skin, get swells and these are known as varicose veins. The varicose veins are caused due to the loss of elasticity in the walls of the veins. Due to this the veins stretch out and slow down the movement of blood back to the heart. Therefore this leads to an increase in the blood pressure and causes the veins to swell present below the skin. It looks twisted and purple or blue in color and looks like that they are sitting on top of the skin which means they are raised. They are painful especially when a person sits or stands still for a long time. A person with varicose veins has achy legs and even feels heavy.
