A resource is an origin or supply from which and which has some utility, a gain is produced. Resources are categorised into renewable and non-renewable resources and can be widely categorized according to their availability. They can also be categorised as real and potential on the grounds of the degree of growth and use as biotic and abiotic on the basis of origin, and as widespread and localised on the basis of their distribution.
Characteristics of resource:-
(i) A resource is a source or supply from which an advantage is generated.
(ii) Materials, money, services, personnel or other assets are typically resources that are transformed to produce profit and may be consumed or made available in the process.

Almost all elements of nature which can regenerate themselves are renewable resources. Sunlight, wind, water, woods and the like for example. Non-renewable resources, however, are limited in quantity. Including fossil rocks and oils. While it takes millions of years for these resources to form, if we use them constantly, they will eventually get over within our lifetime.
