A man walks $7\,km$ in $2$ hours and $2\,km$ in $1$ hour.

(a) We have been given that a man walks $7km$ in $2$ hours and later he walks $2km$ in $1$ hour. Let us calculate the total distance travelled by man i.e.
$7 + 2 = 9km$
Now we will calculate the total time taken by him to travel:
$2 + 1 = 3hrs$
We know the formula of average speed i.e. $\dfrac{D}{T}$.
By putting the values in the formula we have:
$\text{Average speed} = \dfrac{9}{3}$

(b) We will calculate the average velocity with the formula: $\dfrac{\text{Total Displacement}}{\text{Total time}}$
Average velocity of the man is calculated by dividing the total distance covered by man in one direction by the total time taken by him.
