Hint: There are many microscopic areas in a magnet called domains , if we can somehow rupture the domain walls then the magnetism will be lost.
Complete step by step solution: To rupture the domain walls of magnet we can use variety of factors such as:-
1. Heat: The temperature change can cause demagnetization. At extreme temperature changes the atoms are rendered to moderate vibrations and with the increase of temperature beyond curie temperature the magnet will lose its magnetism.
2. Improper storage: If we store the magnets with north poles together it causes to lose its magnetism faster than normal.
3. Age: The atomic vibration in a molecule over several years changes the temperature of the magnet and eventually randomizes the orientation of domains. So the magnetization is generally lost.
So, to retain the magnetic properties of a magnet:-
1. We have to store magnet at room temperature which should be lesser than curie temperature.
2. We must prevent the magnets from any kind of mechanical shock which subjects the magnet to breakage.
Additional information: In a horseshoe magnet a wood is placed in between the parallel magnets so that the magnets do not get brittle.
Note: To keep our magnet safe we need to dedicate a special box only where they will be safe.
