Ions are produced in any solution only, when the added electrolyte is of the same type as that of the solution, because like dissolves like. Some compounds have the tendency to liberate hydrogen ions in the solution. Thus acids have the tendency to liberate hydrogen, ${{H}^{+}}$ ions in solutions. When dissolved in water, they have the tendency to give, ${{H}_{3}}{{O}^{+}}$ ions, which are also acidic and are called hydronium ions. This is because the water molecule readily takes up the liberated ${{H}^{+}}$ion from the acids and forms a hydronium ion.
