Theme of the Poem

The theme of the poem is educational and encouraging and helps in developing the confidence of children. When children are young, they develop a fear when they are asked to adapt in a new environment but with Pete, the poet tries to make it easier for the kids to learn to adapt and settle in new environments like school. The poet has tried to maintain a repetitive tone in the poem to create a sense of cheerfulness in the different things that the cat is doing at school which will ultimately result in the kids also taking their school and other activities with joy.

Pete’s Day at the School

There goes, Pete

Walking down the street,

with fabulous red shoes

on his four furry feet.

Pete is heading towards school,

While he joyfully sings:

"I'm rocking in my school shoes

I'm rocking in my school shoes

I'm rocking in my school shoes."

Pete sits at his desk when he hears the teacher say,

"Come with me, Pete, towards the hall

To the room that has books on every wall."

Where is Pete going? He’s going to The library!

Pete has never seen or gone to a library before!

Is Pete worried? No, Not at all!

He gets his favourite book, and sings his little song:

"I'm reading in my school shoes,

I'm reading in my school shoes,

I'm reading in my school shoes."

Come and Look at Pete.

He's hungry and goes to a big, noisy room

It has so many tables and seats.

Where is Pete? He’s at The lunchroom!

It is so loud and busy in the lunchroom.

But is Pete worried? No, not at all!

He joins all his friends and sings his song:

"I'm eating in my school shoes,

I'm eating in my school shoes,

I'm eating in my school shoes."

Pete is playing with his friends outside

on a green, grassy field that has swings and tall slides.

Where is Pete? The playground!

Kids are running here and there.

Is Pete worried? No, Not at all!

He slides and swings while singing his song:

"I'm playing in my school shoes

I'm playing in my school shoes

I'm playing in my school shoes."

All day long Pete sings his song.

"I'm singing in my school shoes,

I'm painting in my school shoes,

I'm adding in my school shoes,

I'm writing in my school shoes."

After school when Pete rides the bus home,.

His mother asked him about all that he did at

The school today And Pete says . . .

"I was rocking in my school shoes,

I was rocking in my school shoes,

I was rocking in my school shoes,

And I will do it again tomorrow!

Because it's all good."
