Waiting in a hot tureen!

Who for such dainties would not stoop?

Beau-ootiful Soo-oop!

Soo-oop of the e- e- evening,

Beautiful, beautiful Soup!"

"Beautiful Soup! Who cares for fish,

Game, or any other dish?

Who would not give all else for two

Pennyworth only of Beautiful Soup?

Pennyworth only of Beautiful Soup?"

Beau- ootiful Soo-oop!

Soo-oop of the e- e evening,

Beautiful, beauti- FUL SOUP."

Beautiful Soup Poem Summary

The poem is divided into uneven lines. The stanzas consist of five, four, five, and four lines. It is an 18-line poem written by Lewis Carroll, which is called Heroic Sonnet. The rhyme scheme used in this poem is XXaAA AABa ccXaa XAABa. The speaker's mood here in this poem is quite excited. The speaker strongly feels about the subject that he or she is describing. A further explanation of the poem is given below:-

Stanza 1

The whole poem talks of a particular soup that the speaker is enjoying. The opening lines of the poem are followed by the same expression. We can see that rich, green soup is served to the speaker in a "hot tureen". Excitedly, the speaker cries out, "Soup of the evening, Beautiful soup!" This proves that the speaker is very excited to taste the Soup and look at its colour before it even arrives at his table. By the poem's opening lines, we can assume that the speaker is having vegetable soup.

Stanza 2

The second stanza of the poem is very much about the expression of the speaker. Here, the speaker only cries two lines repeatedly, and they are "Beau-ootiful Soo-oop" and "Soo-oop of the e-e-evening". These lines from the speaker could depict his favourite dish, soup, and he loves it more than anything.

Stanza 3

In the poem's third stanza, we understand how much the speaker loves Soup. He loves Soup so much that he does not care for any fish in his dish or plate. He does not even care for any other dish or games. Now the speaker is talking about games; we can understand that males mostly played games during that era. However, we could say the speaker here is a male and loves the soup more than any game.

It surely is a vegetable soup still, but the speaker will prefers it more as compared to other non-veg items. The speaker says he will not share it with anyone as he has paid every penny. In the end, he is saying that it is worth having.

Stanza 4

Again in the poem's last lines, we see the excited-filled expression of the speaker. Here, the only change is the speaker has had the soup and is giving his genuine expression to it. Previously, even before the order came, the speaker was happy about it. We can expect that the speaker has had the soup earlier, and it has become his favourite ever since, so even before his order comes, he becomes highly excited. Interestingly, he keeps his expressions high throughout the poem.

The Theme of the Poem Beautiful Soup

The whole poem is about a dish, which is a bowl of rich green soup. The poet has highly praised the taste of the soup and says it is better than any other food and game. The theme of this poem, thus, revolves around the thought: "Anything in the world can be beautiful, as long as the individual sees a positive perspective on it".

Summary

The moral of this poem is always to be positive about every decision you make. Additionally, one must appreciate all the things they have and have achieved in life. Similarly, the speaker in the poem keeps himself happy by ordering his favourite soup and, with full confidence, expresses his emotion about it. Every person in the world must love and appreciate every moment they are living now.
