No More Mistakes With How to Convert Meter to Feet

The meter and the foot are two units of measurement that everyone is familiar with. These units are also used to measure length. However, there is a distinction between the two units since the foot is the average distance between the feet, but the meter is a separate measure. In this article, we are going to study how to measure meters in feet and how to convert meters to feet.

History of Metric System

The French are usually credited with inventing the metric measurement system. The French government formally adopted the system in 1795, but only after more than a century of sometimes acrimonious debate over its utility and suspicions about metric proponents' intentions.

The unit of length was given the name "meter" by a commission appointed by the academy, which took its name from the Greek word "metron," which means "measure." It was intended that the standard be built to be a fraction of the distance between the North Pole and the Equator.

Between 1970 and 1980, there was a major push in the United States for the widespread adoption of the metric system.

What Exactly is a Meter?

A meter is a displacement or length unit in the International System of Units (SI). Furthermore, one meter is roughly 39.37 inches, and one foot is approximately 0.3048 meters. Furthermore, a meter is made up of 100 centimeters. The standard meter is exactly equal to 1650763.73 wavelengths in the vacuum, of the radiation from the krypton isotope of mass 86. The SI unit of meter is m.

What Exactly is Foot?

In the imperial and US customary measuring systems, the foot is also a unit of measurement. Furthermore, the actual value of a foot is around 0.3048 meters. A foot also comprises 12 inches, and 3 feet is considered the perimeter of the yard. Furthermore, the foot's length ranges from 250 to 335 mm (millimeter) and it is denoted by a symbol of ft.

Relation Between Meter and Feet

The conversion of length measurements in meters to equivalent feet measures is known as a meter to feet in mathematics. The meter and the foot are the units of measurement used to quantify length. The SI unit for measuring length and distance is the meter. The letter "m" is commonly used to represent it. The feet, or foot, is the standard measuring system in the United States, and it is denoted by the letter "ft."

To convert meters to feet, we must first understand the differences in their lengths. According to the regulation, one meter equals 3.28 feet and one foot equals 12 inches. Therefore, simply multiply the number of meters by the value of feet per meter to convert meters to feet. That means,

converting meters to feet = (Number of meters) / (Number of feet per meter)

The above relation is also known as the meter to feet conversion formula. Moreover, according to standard regulation, we use the 1 m = 3.28 ft relation for conversion, and this relation is known as the meters to feet formula.

How to Calculate Meter to Feet

For example you are asked to convert 15 meters to feet then you can calculate the number of feet in 15 meters using the following process;

As we know, 1 m = 3.28 ft

So in order to convert 15 meters into feet we have to multiply the above relation by 15. Therefore, using we can write,

$15\times 1 ~m =15\times 3.28~ft$

After multiplying we can write the above relation as,

15 m = 49.2 ft

Hence, we can say that 15 m is equal to 49.2 ft.

How to Calculate Feet to Meter

Similarly if we want to do a feet-to-meter conversion then we have to use the same relation i.e., 1 m = 3.28 ft,  and follow the same process. For example, if want to calculate that 28.80 ft is equal to how many meters then we can calculate it as follows;

As we know that 1 m = 3.28 ft

The relationship described above may also be written as,

3.28 = 1 m ft

Then we can write 1 ft as,

$1 ~ft=\dfrac{1}{3.28}~m$

In order to covert 28.80 ft  in meters, we have to multiply the above relation by 28.80 Therefore, we can write the relation as,

$28.8\times 1 ~ft=\dfrac{28.8}{3.28}~m$

After solving the relation we can write,

28.8 ft = 8.78 m

Hence we can say that 28.80 ft is equaled to 8.78 m.

Solved examples

1. How many feet are there in 14 inches?

Sol: To answer the above problem we have to use the two relations. First, we have to convert the inches into meters by using the relation 1 inch = 0.025 m and then we have to apply the standard relation for converting the meter into feet i.e.,1 m = 3.28 ft. Now, let’s proceed to the solution to the problem.

As we know, 1 inch = 0.025 m

To convert 14inches in meters we have to multiply the above relation by 14. Thus we can write,

$14\times 1 ~inch=14\times 0.025~m$

On solving the above relation we can write,

14 inches = 0.35 m

So we have come to know that 14inches are equal to 0.35 m. As we know, 1 m = 3.28 ft. Therefore we have to multiply the relation by 0.35 to calculate the number of feet. Therefore,

$0.35\times 1 ~m=0.35\times 3.28~ft$

After solving we can write,

0.35 m = 1.148 ft

Hence, we can say that 14 inches are equal to 1.148 ft

2. How many meters are there in 32.80 feet?

Sol: We can find the solution to this problem using the relation 1 m = 3.28 ft. First, we have to determine that one foot is equal to how many meters and then multiply the equation by 32.80 to find the final answer. So, let’s start the solution,

As we know, 1 m = 3.28 ft

The relationship described above may also be written as,

3.28 ft = 1 m

Taking 3.28 to the other side of equals to,

$1 ~ft=\dfrac{1}{3.28}~m$

To calculate 32.80  feet in meters, we have to multiply the above relation by 32.80  then we can write the relation as,

$32.80\times1 ~ft=\dfrac{32.80}{3.28}~m$

After solving we can write,

32.80 ft = 10 m

Hence, we can say that 32.80 ft is equal to 10 m.

Conclusion

Conversion of units plays an important role in our daily life as well as in our practical calculations. In this article, we studied how a unit of length “foot” can be converted into different units of length with solved examples.
