Ans: Communication involves transmitting messages to other people. Technology has made it possible for us to discover more rapid means of communication. Phones, mobile phones, and the Internet are some of the means we use to communicate.


3. What is transportation?

Ans: Transportation is the method of delivery of goods or people from one place to another with the help of a variety of means for example air, water, road, rail, etc. Importing and exporting is also a type of transportation.


4. How are planes useful for transportation?

Ans: Planes are considered the fastest mode of transportation. Planes are best suitable for the long-distance journey as compared to other means of transportation. Planes are costlier than other modes of transportation but are most opted because it saves a lot of time for passengers. Planes are the most efficient means of transportation for businesspersons.


5. How traveling with railways is beneficial?

Ans: The last century saw a revolution in communication. The growth in information technology has resulted in making the world a global village. This means that the world has shrunken in several ways. First of all, people can easily travel to other sides of the world. Air travel is cheaper and faster than ever. Secondly, if people do not want to travel, they can communicate with those far away using the internet. Social media has also favored the shrinking of the world. Mobile phones have made this process even easier.


2. What are the differences between the people who were traveling earlier and who are traveling now? Explain.

Ans: In ancient times used to travel on their foot from one place to another and with the passage of time they invented carts, which were run by different kinds of animals like the buffaloes, dogs, etc. The carts run by these animals like buffaloes are known as bullock carts. This remained the mode of transportation for a very long time but as science developed different means like, cars, bikes, railways, etc came into existence. The human lifestyle changed completely after the coming of such a revolutionary method of transportation. Now, these modes of transportation are used by people for the last 100 years.


3. Has the internet made human life more comfortable? Explain.

Ans: With the coming of the internet, revolution too came into the world. With the internet, any information regarding anything in the world was just a click away. Human life became more comfortable in a variety of ways. It is used as a communication method as well as for the deliverance of the information from one place to another. The internet is also a bane as some people use it with malign intentions.

The use of the internet is very subjective. It helps both the people: one who wants to use it for their own benefits as well as those who use it for fulfilling their negative thoughts.


4. Why settlements became necessary? Explain.

Ans: The collection of houses built by people for living purposes is known as settlement. Gradually, it turned into a habitat. People started moving and sharing things with each other. This was known as the barter method of transaction. It converted into a business matter very soon.

Two types of settlements are:

  • Temporary Settlement: Settlement for a very shorter duration period is known as Temporary Settlement. The atmosphere and weather of a place are deciding factors in this type of settlement.

  • Permanent Settlement: Those settlements which are made for a whole lifetime is known as a permanent settlement.


5. What do you mean by waterways? Explain.

Ans: Transportation based on the means of water is known as waterways. Ships and boats are used in the water for transportation purposes. This is best used for the transportation of heavy materials from one place to another because of its cheap rates.


Inland Waterways:  Inland waterways are used in the country or among different states. Rivers are used for this purpose. Large ships on the river transport the goods from one place to another.
