BSEB Class 10 Maths Syllabus for Matric Board 

Let’s discuss the BSEB Class 10 Maths Syllabus.

1. Unit I: Number System 

• Chapter 1 - Real Numbers: Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic, Euclid’s division lemma – statements after reviewing work done earlier and after illustrating and motivating through examples. Proofs of the results – irrationality of √2, √3, √5 as well as decimal expansions of the rational numbers in terms of terminating/non-terminating recurring decimals.

2. Unit II: Algebra

• Chapter 2 - Polynomials: Zeros of a polynomial. Relationship between coefficients of a polynomial and zeroes with particular reference to quadratic polynomials. Statement and very simple problems on the division algorithms for the polynomials with real coefficients. 

• Chapter 3 - Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables: Algebraic conditions for a number of solutions. Solution for a pair of linear equations in two variables substitution/algebraically, by elimination method and by cross multiplication method. Simple situational problems must be included. Simple problems on the equations which are reducible to linear equations are also included and geometric representation of different possibilities of solutions/inconsistency.

• Chapter 4 - Quadratic Equations: Standard form of a quadratic equation ax2 + bx + c equals to 0, (a ≠ 0). The solution of quadratic equations (only real roots) by factorization and by completing the square, i.e., by using the quadratic formula. Relationship between discriminant and nature of roots. Problems related to day-to-day activities to be incorporated.

• Chapter 5 - Arithmetic Progressions (AP): Derivation of the standard results for finding the nth term and sum of the first n terms.

3. Unit III:  Trigonometry 

• Chapter 6 - Introduction to Trigonometry: Trigonometric ratios of an acute angle (angles less than 90 degrees) of a right-angled triangle. Proof of existence: Relationships between the ratios. Trigonometric Identities: Proof and applications of identities, Only simple identities are to be given. Trigonometric ratios of complementary angles.

• Chapter 7 - Heights and Distances: Simple problems on heights and distances. The problems should try not to involve more than two right triangles. 

4. Unit IV: Coordinate Geometry 

• Chapter 8 - Lines (In two-dimensions): Review the concepts of coordinate geometry which have been done earlier including graphs of linear equations. Awareness of geometrical representation of quadratic polynomials. Distance between two points and section formula (internal). Area of a triangle. 

5. Unit V: Geometry 

• Chapter 9 - Triangles : Definition of triangles, Examples of similar triangles. 

• Chapter 10 - Circles : Tangents to a circle motivated by chords drawn from points coming closer and even closer to the point.
