Pt is a chemical element which has atomic number of 78 and having atomic mass $195.09\,g/mol$. It is a symbol for the element whose name is ‘Platinum’. It was discovered by Julius Scaliger in 1735.
The word Platinum is derived from a Spanish Word Platina which means ‘little silver’ due to its grey-white silvery colour. It is a precious transition metal which is a greyish white in colour and is used in jewellery, laboratory equipment, dentistry, and car emission control devices. Platinum, Pt is a heavy, malleable, precious metal that is resistant to corrosion and some acids, and is used in catalytic converters and fuel cells. More precious than gold, it is extremely rare. platinum is a solid at room temperature.
With an availability of $5g/kg$ in the earth’s crust, it is one of the rarest elements and is highly valuable for the same reason. Thus, it is rare on Earth and used as a catalyst. Although it was discovered relatively later by European scientists, it has been found in Egyptian tombs dating back to 1200 BC.

It should be noted that it was not realized that the native platinum the scientists were examining also contained other elements even 50 years after the discovery of platinum in South America and the early investigations of its properties by a number of, French, German, Swedish and English scientists.
