The chemical reaction in which a high molecular mass is formed or a large number of monomer molecules combines to form a massive product which is known as polymer is called polymerization. There are a huge number of applications for these polymers. They are used to make polythene covers, drinking bottles, CDs, DVDs etc. They are also used to coat the surface of the non-stick utensils.

The smallest unit of the above shown polymer is carbon tetrafluoride or Tetrafluoroethylene which is also known as Teflon.
