The light consists of seven colors. The primary colors are those which we cannot produce by mixing other colors. The colors such a red, blue and green cannot be produced by the other colors. It is not possible to produce these colors by the other colors; hence red, blue and green are the primary colors.

We can see from the above diagram and those yellow colors are formed by mixing red and green colors. We can also see that magenta is formed by mixing blue and green colors. From the above diagram, we can say that cyan color is formed by mixing green and blue colors.

Note:The combination of all the seven colors is the white light. Hence it is the pure ternary color. VIBGYOR is the term we use for these seven colors, which are violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. Out of these, only three colors i.e. red, green and blue are primary and the rest of the colors are the secondary.
