Hint: Fossil fuels are made due to decomposition of organic living beings like plants and animals. These are generally found in the Earth’s crust and are hydrocarbons which can be burned for energy. So, points for this question can be framed by focusing only on energy.
Complete answer:
Advantages:
-Since they can generate a lot of energy on burning so used in production of electricity.
-With a period of time man understood about its handling, whereas on the other hand there are risks in modern techniques like nuclear power.
-Still we have plenty of them to use for years.
-They are readily available and energy can easily be produced from them.
-In case of oil and gases, can easily be transported through pipelines.
Disadvantages:
-Major disadvantages of using fossil fuels are environmental hazards.
-Fossils on burning emit harmful oxides like \[C{O_2}\] , $S{O_2}$ which causes greenhouse effect and acid rain respectively.
-Oil spills cause water pollution, coal burning causes smoke, mishandling of refineries can cause rigs to explode.
-Since it is a non- renewable resource available for current use but may be limited in future.
-Not only is it hazardous but it’s harvest as well, causes severe disease among the people as they are exposed to harmful chemicals and smoke.
So, The correct answer is (C).
Note: There are many forms of energy: like solar, wind, wave and thermal to name a few, but the 6 Forms of Energy we study in Needham are: Sound, Chemical, Radiant, Electric, Atomic and Mechanical. Sound Energy- is produced when an object is made to vibrate.
