Hint: There are different types of basins. A basin is a form of depression or a dip on the earth’s surface. There are three major types of basins.
Complete answer: The different types of basins are: structural basins, river drainage basins and ocean basins. Ocean basins are large scale whereas a river drainage basin is drained by the river and all of the river’s tributaries.
THE NARMADA BASIN:
It’s based in Madhya Pradesh and rises from the Amarkantak Hills there. It is a river drainage basin and flows to the west in the form of a rift valley due to excessive faulting. The Dhauladhar falls and the rocks in Jabalpur are a part of the many picturesque locations that it forms. Most of these basins are very short and tend to form right angles when they join the mainstream. It originates in Madhya Pradesh but also covers parts of Gujarat. In the end, it falls into the Arabian Sea.
The TAPI BASIN:
The Tapi basin is also based in Madhya Pradesh. It rises in the Satpura ranges which are a part of the Betul district in Madhya Pradesh. Compared toThe Narmada basin it’s much shorter and flows in the form of rift valleys which are parallel to the Narmada basin. It covers the regions of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat. In the end just like the Narmada basin, it drains into the Arabian sea.
Note: Do not confuse these two basins with the Brahmaputra and Ganga basins. They have different geographical locations and features. They are much larger in size and cover areas of Tibet, Nepal, India and Bangladesh.
