The constituent assembly began the process of drafting the Indian constitution.

Complete answer:
Many decades before India's independence, the process of drafting the Indian Constitution began. Motilal Nehru authored the Indian Constitution for the first time in 1928. The British legislatures were ineffective, and voting rights were not granted to all citizens. The Indian legislators had taken what they had learned during the colonial period and applied it to the constitution. Many of the institutional elements and procedures were adapted from colonial legislation, such as the Government of India Act 1935.

The Constituent Assembly was in charge of creating the Indian Constitution. In December 1946, the Indian Constituent Assembly met for the first time. This assembly was made up entirely of Indians. The Constituent Assembly began drafting India's first constitution. The Drafting Committee was chaired by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, while the Constituent Assembly was chaired by Dr. Rajendra Prasad. Our Constitution was ratified on November 26, 1949, and took effect on January 26, 1950, which we celebrate as Republic Day.

Note: The Dominion of India became the Republic of India once the constitution superseded the Government of India Act 1935 as the country's primary governing document. Article 395 of the Constitution ensured constitutional autochthony by repealing past acts of the British parliament.
