Hint:Cotton is a soft, fluffy staple fibre theta grown in the form of the cotton boll around the seeds of the cotton plants. Cotton belongs to the genus Gossypium and family Malvaceae. The cotton fibre is almost pure cellulose. The cotton plant is a shrub which is native to the tropical and subtropical regions around the world.

India is the one of the largest producers of the cotton.The cotton sector in India is considered as the second most developed sector in the textile industry (the first one is man made fibres).The states of Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Punjab are the major cotton producing areas in the India.These are the areas where the cotton textile areas were concentrated due to the availability of raw material, market, transport, labour, and moist climate.The cotton textile industry has generated huge employment for both skilled and unskilled persons.The textile industry was the major component of economic income in India.

Processes done in the cotton textile industries:
>Ginning – The process of removal of fluffy cotton from its seed is called ginning. Ginning can be done with the help of a machine as well as by hands.
>Spinning – Spinning is the process of turning fibre into the yarn.
>Weaving – The process of making a piece of fabric by arranging two sets of yarn together is called the weaving.

Note:India exports yarn to different countries like Japan, United States, United Kingdom, Russia, France, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and other countries also. India has the second largest installed capacity of spindles of cotton in the world after that of China.
