Luck

Luck is something that has been talked about over centuries. It is something that is commonly discussed beyond borders, cultures, races, and religions. It is indeed an alluring subject, everybody wants it. It is said to bring wealth and joy. But is it real, or is it just hard work that is not given credit? This is a great debate between philosophers, one that has given rise to many arguments to do with the existence of luck. There are hundreds of millions of people around the world who do believe in luck. Are they wrong? It is one of the simplest questions one can ask, but the answers to this single question are like scaling a mountain that is never-ending.
The concept of luck is bizarre in itself. It is defined as success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one's own actions. It renders hard work useless. Thomas Jefferson once said, ‘I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.’ What he was trying to say was, that success can be determined only by how much you work towards it. The concept of luck takes away hard work, it kills ambition. Luck is a catalyst of laziness. When it comes to failure, people look for anything or anyone to blame but themselves. If you work hard, make the right decisions at the right time, luck will follow you. Luck has got more to do with probability than anything else. It is a strong coincidence of events. People often confuse the mathematics of probability with luck. However, probability can be explained with equations. Luck cannot be explained. It is something that is abstract and intangible. More often than not we fail to understand or comprehend the fact that opportunities grabbed at the right time is credited with good luck and the failure to do so is termed with bad or rotten luck. It is often a question of good and bad judgement, which becomes better with experience. Experience is the best teacher. It is definitely helpful to some people, but that is largely a coincidence, and cannot be considered solid proof. Luck always favours the hardworking people. Always expect luck to favour you after doing hard work. Do not confuse hard work with luck, and do not blame bad luck for your mistakes. It is a recipe for disaster and leads to many sleepless nights.
Like all of what we call mysteries of life it is impossible, of course, to prove one way or the other. However, the existence of luck should do nothing to solidify its existence in your life. It is a chance. Depending on it can bring nothing good. Luck always seems to be against the man who depends on it.
