The vast state of Rajasthan is the largest producer of wool in India. It has a 36.81 percent part in the wool production in India. There are several sheep breeds available in Rajasthan from the heavy production of the wool. The main breeds of sheep for wool production in Rajasthan are Marwari, Malpuri, Chokla, and pungal. The best quality wool is extracted from the chokla breed. There are various breeding centers for the Merino sheep developed in Rajasthan. They are following -Suratgarh and Bikaner. Rajasthan has a larger availability of land for the establishment of factories. The famous thread-making factory is situated in Jodhpur and Bikaner. The other reason for the establishment of the wool industry in Rajasthan is the availability of cheap labor.

Note: India has a huge demand for wool. That is why in 2019-20, Indian wool consumption will reach about 260 million kilograms. The major importer of wool is China, Italy, Japan, Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America. In India, the wool industry is a market of 11484.82 crores.
