Full form of UNESCO is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.It works in the field of building cultural peace. It also helps in the eradication of poverty. “Building peace in the minds of men and women” is its slogan. Its headquarters are in Paris.

After the First World War, the League of Nations’ International Committee on Intellectual Cooperation was formed to advance peace. But after the Second World War the UN was formed. The Second World War played a big impact on carving out the mission of UNESCO. Its mission was also to advance peace on an international level. It also endeavors to achieve sustainable development. It tries to achieve its objective with the help of education, natural sciences, social/ human sciences, culture and communication/information. UNESCO also extends its help to projects which aims at removing illiteracy, imparting technical training and education and preserving cultural diversity etc. Its work on fundamental education in the Marbai Valley, Haiti was its pilot project in the field of education. The project was started in 1947.
