He became the Sikh leader at a very young age of 14. On 3rd March in the year 1644, after the death of his grandfather who was regarded as the sixth Sikh leader, Guru Hargobind.

Complete step by step solution:
The name of the seventh Sikh guru was Guru Har Rai Ji. He was the seventh of the Ten Gurus of Sikhism and became Guru on Tuesday, 19 March, in the year 1644 after walking on the footsteps of his grandfather, Guru HarGobind Ji. Before Guru Ji died, he selected Guru Har Krishan Ji, his son, as the next Guru of the Sikhs.

Given below is the summary of the main highlights of Guru Ji’s life:

1) He didn’t make any changes in the military traditions which were first initiated by his grandfather, Guru HarGobind Ji and hence kept 2200 mounted soldiers at all times.
2) He was disturbed during his childhood by the harm caused to the plants when they were accidentally destroyed by his robe.
3) He visited the Malwa and Doaba regions of Punjab on a regular basis.
4)Guru Ji’s son, Ram Rai, distorts Bani in front of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, after which the Guru said, “Ram Rai, you have disobeyed my order and sinned. I will never see you again on account of your infidelity.”
5) The Guru had chosen his youngest son, the five year old, Har Krishan Ji as the Eighth Sikh Guru, on Sunday, 20 October, 1661.

Note:
Although, Guru Har Rai Ji was all about peace. He never in history disbanded the armed Sikh Warriors (Saint Soldiers), who were before managed by his grandfather, Guru Hargobind. He always encouraged the military spirit of the Sikhs, but he never himself indulged in any direct political and armed controversy with the contemporary Mughal Empire.
