Hint:A plateau is basically a raised area that has a flat top. The Aravali and Vindhya are mountain ranges of the Peninsular Plateau. While the Aravali rises in the North near Delhi and extends till Gujarat through Haryana and Rajasthan, the Vindhya rises from Gujarat and extends till Uttar Pradesh.

Complete Answer:The plateau that lies between Aravali and Vindhya ranges is the Malwa plateau.
This plateau is of volcanic origins and covers the present day states of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

The plateau slopes towards the North and has an average elevation of 500m. It is a rolling plateau and has the Chambhal ravines in the North.Mahi , Chambal and Betwa rivers flow through it and the area is mostly covered with savanna type vegetations. The region is rich in black soil due to its volcanic origins. This soil requires less irrigation as it has excellent water retaining capacity.

The region is famous for its opium, wheat and soybean production. Textiles are a major industry here. The region has animals like blackbuck , sambhar and chinkara.

Note:The region has a rich history. The region has been ruled by the Malavas, Mauryas, Guptas, Paramara dynasties and later the Mughals and the Marathas. It has places of religious importance like Ujjain. It is also famous for the Simhastha Mela which is held every 12 years on the banks of the river Shipra.
