Hint: An ecosystem is a functional entity of nature where both living or biotic and abiotic or non- living components connect with each other. It includes plants, microorganisms, animals and all the living things along with non- living components like soil, dust, water.
Complete answer:
The vital function of an ecosystem is to exchange the energy from one life form to another, which runs in a circle and is an important parameter in sustaining the entire life on a planet. Different types of ecosystem are: 1) Terrestrial ecosystem: It is found only on land. The main source of energy in the terrestrial ecosystem is the better availability of sunlight. Different types of terrestrial ecosystem are: a) Forest Ecosystem- These ecosystem include flora and fauna. The oxygen supplied in the majority is supplied by the forest ecosystem. It contains high density of trees and woody vegetation. b) Desert Ecosystem- In this ecosystem minimum amount of precipitation is received. In desert ecosystems plants require less water for survival as water is conserved by stem and leaves. Examples include Cactus and camels. c) Grassland Ecosystem- It occurs in regions where the availability of soil water is dry enough for forest to thrive but it can support the growth of herbaceous plants. Examples of Grassland Ecosystem include shrubs, herbs and grazing animals. 2) Aquatic ecosystem: includes organisms living in water bodies like oceans, lakes etc. These are distinguished into fresh and marine ecosystems. Fresh ecosystem can be running water like a river or standing water like a lake. Marine ecosystems include saltwater like oceans, sea. In the natural ecosystem like trees, desert, Grasslands the complex food chain and high genetic diversity is maintained with nutrient cycling. Another ecosystem includes an artificial ecosystem which is made by humans to control the biotic community and physicochemical environment. Examples include aquariums as the fishes are fed continuously and water is maintained and managed daily.
Hence, the correct answer is option (C).
Note: Biotic components are made from the biosphere whereas abiotic components are made from atmosphere, lithosphere. Biotic components include autotrophs, heterotrophs and decomposers where abiotic components include climatic factors, organic and inorganic substances. The Lives of living organisms are disturbed by abiotic factors as they affect the growth, reproduction of these organisms.
