The tomb of the Jahangir who ruled the Mughal Empire from 1605 to 1627 CE, is outside India in Shahdara bagh in Lahore, Punjab that is located in Pakistan. His actual name was Nur-ud-din Muhammad Salim and Jahangir was his imperial name. He was born on 31 August 1569 in Fatehpur Sikri. He was known for his contradictory stand on religion and his love for arts. His tomb is located alongside the banks of the river Ravi. The Mughal emperor Jahangir died at the age of 58, near the town of Rajouri alongside the foothills of Kashmir on 28 October 1627 and his body was transferred from Kashmir to Lahore on Friday, 12 November 1627. Shah Jahan the new emperor of the Mughal Empire who was the son of Jahangir ordered that a mausoleum should be built in his father’s honor. The Jahangir’s tomb is famous for its interior embellished marble and beautiful exterior look. The garden in which the Jahangir was buried was a favorite place of Jahangir and his wife Noor Jahan when they used to live in Lahore, this garden is known as Dilkusha garden.

Note: In some years during the floods from the nearby river Ravi this place was in danger and in the year 1988, this place experienced water damage during flooding for about 5 days the place was covered with 10 feet of water but still, it sustained. The tomb is surrounded by gardens that are vast and laid out in Persian Chahar bagh or paradise garden.
