Hint: The prefix “eco” of the ecosystem can be defined as habitat, surrounding, or environment. A community consists of living and nonliving things that interact as a system. The organism that has the highest gross primary productivity is also known as the rain forests of the sea.

Complete answer: GPP is the total rate at which material is produced and net primary production (NPP) is the rate at which material is accumulated in excess of respiration. A community consists of living organisms and nonliving things which interact as a system called an ecosystem. Both internal and external factors control ecosystems. External factors are also called state factors. The overall structure of an ecosystem is controlled by external factors such as climate and topography but are not themselves influenced by the ecosystem. Internal factors which control the ecosystem are competition, disturbance, succession, shading, and the types of species which are present in the ecosystem. Dessert is a type of barren land which has low vegetation and hot climatic condition. In the aquatic ecosystem, coral reefs show the highest gross primary productivity. Large numbers of aquatic phototrophs and phytoplankton contribute to the productivity of the ecosystem. The area which is formed by the confluence of Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna rivers in the Bay of Bengal is called Sundarbans as it is occupied by a large number of mangroves. An area which is dominated by the vegetation of grasses is called a grassland.
So, option B is the correct answer.

Note: The ecosystem is disturbed by the increase in environmental pollution. Various factors include urbanization, mining, deforestation, human activities, etc. Net primary productivity is the rate of storage of organic matter except which is utilized for the respiration by plants. It is the total biomass available for consumers.
