Abdul Kalam was an Indian aerospace scientist and politician. He served as India's 11th President during the years 2002 to 2007. He was Born and raised in Rameswaram which is a town in Tamil Nadu. He studied physics and aerospace engineering. He spent the next forty years as a scientist and science administrator where he was mainly associated with the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

He has been involved in India's civilian space programme and military missile development efforts. His work on the development of ballistic missiles and launch vehicle technology earned him the name
“The Missile Man of India” . He also played an important organisational, technical and political role in India's Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998 which was the first since India's original nuclear test in 1974.

Rameswaram is a town and municipality located in the Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu, Indian state. It is on Pamban Island which is separated from mainland India by the Pamban Channel. This is nearly 40 kilometres from Mannar Island, Sri Lanka. It's in the Gulf of Mannar, at the tip of the Indian peninsula.
