Hint: Considering the population size of India, conducting an election is a complex matter. The country or a state is divided into several constituencies and each constituency elects one winner.

Complete Step by Step answer:
The Election Commission consists of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners as may be decided by the President of India from time to time. Their terms and conditions are determined by the Parliament.
India is a democratic country but it has adopted indirect democracy. The administration is run by the representatives of the people, who are elected for a fixed term. The election in India comprises different stages. The first important phase in the election is the delimitation of constituencies. Once the constituencies are decided, a temporary list of voters is prepared. After the announcement of the date of the election, nomination papers are filed in favour of candidates. The political parties conduct election campaigns for two-weeks between the announcement of the final list of candidates and the date of polling. The final stage of an election is the polling day, generally referred to as the election day. Voters cast their vote at the polling booth against the name of the candidate whom they want to vote for. Electronic Voting Machines are used to record votes. The machine displays the party symbol and the name of the candidate on the EVM after an individual cast their vote. Once the polling is over, all the EVMs are sealed and are taken to a secure place. On a fixed date, all EVMs are opened one after the other and the votes secured in each constituency are counted. The candidate getting the highest votes is declared elected.

Note: Article 324 of the Indian Constitution grants the Election Commission the power of supervision, direction, and control of elections of Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha, and the State legislature.
