We all have studied about the cell, and it is the basic structural and functional unit of all the organisms living in the world. The cells have various organelles inside it which are working in a definitive manner and each of the organelle has its specific function which it does efficiently. Now since the cell is having so many organelles inside it and they must remain inside the cell. So the covering of all the organelles of the cell is done by the Plasma membrane or other name we can say is ‘Plasmalemma’. The nature of the plasmalemma is semi-permeable and it allows the entry of compounds from outside to the inside in a precise manner and only specific items are allowed to get inside the cell. The same mechanism is followed for the removal of compounds. The plasma membrane is made of proteins and lipids in a double layer pattern and membrane fluid flows between the layer of the membrane. The protein generally faces outside of the membrane and lipids are attached in a regular fashion throughout the cell. The tails of the protein flows freely inside the membrane giving the membrane a fluid nature.

Note: The membranes of the cell have other major functions also like keeping the cytoplasm and the nucleoplasm of the cells intact and also the structure and rigidity of the cell is also the function of the plasma membrane.
